NEW YORK (AP) -- Matt Preston had 19 points and 12 rebounds and triggered a pivotal run to start the second half that carried Columbia to an 82-69 victory over Longwood in the opening round of the inaugural Columbia Classic on Friday night.

Columbia (1-0) advanced to the championship game on Saturday against Morehead State, which defeated Mount St. Mary's 66-65 in overtime in the first game of the doubleheader.

Preston opened the second half with a layup and added another in the 13-3 run that gave the Lions a 47-43 lead. Columbia never trailed after that.

Lamar Barrett lead Longwood (0-1) with 18 points and Michael Jefferson added 13.

The Lancers meet Mount St. Mary's on Saturday in the tournament's consolation game.

Jeremiah Boswell added 11 points for the Lions, who finished 25-of-27 from the foul line.
