Appalachian St. 79, Erskine 49

BOONE, N.C. (AP) -- Chris McFarland had 19 points and Noah Brown
added 18 to lead Appalachian State to a 79-49 win over Erskine in
Saturday's season-opener.

Appalachian (1-0) opened the game with a six-point run, holding
the Flying Fleet without a basket until the 17:18 mark and
finishing the half with a 30-18 lead despite shooting 34.2 percent
from the field.

Appalachian never let Erskine (0-1) any closer than seven
through the rest of the game, rattling off 13 straight points after
the break and spreading the lead as wide as 26 points early in the

The Mountaineers shot 31.3 percent from three-point range, more
than doubling their first half percentage, and forced 34 Erskine
turnovers. Appalachian shot 53.8 percent in the second half and
grabbed 20 boards.

Erskine was paced by Matt Odom's 15 points, while Kevin Parker
and Reed Long each added 10.
