    Alabama State 63, South Alabama 61

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Jermaine Smith hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left, and Alabama State took a 63-61 victory over South Alabama on Tuesday night.

    The Hornets (9-2) trailed 61-59, before Smith's shot. Alexander Oliver squeezed in a free throw in the final seconds to bolster the win.

    George Savage led Alabama State with 15 points and Kevin Spicer added 11. Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

    Mario Jointer led South Alabama (2-2) with 21 points, Daniel Northern added 12 and Jeffrey Collins 10.

    South Alabama led 32-26 at halftime, but were held to 39 percent shooting in the second half.
