CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Playing in his first game of the season, Donny McLendon scored 20 points to lead The Citadel to an 81-58 win over Savannah State on Wednesday.

McLendon, who was ineligible for the Bulldogs' first six games because to NCAA transfer rules, scored 12 of his points in the second half.

Kevin Hammack added 18 points, scoring 16 after halftime, and J'mel Everhart had 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for The Citadel.

The Bulldogs (6-1) used a 16-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take control of the game.

With 9:10 left in the first half, the Bulldogs took a 20-9 lead, but Donald Carson made a 3-pointer with one second remaining in the half to bring the Tigers (0-12) to within four points at 33-29.

Savannah State was led by Mark Williams, who scored 20 points. Lazarius Coleman added nine points and five rebounds.
