Holy Cross 84, Brown 71

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Keith Simmons scored a career-high 30 points, leading Holy Cross to an 84-71 win over Brown on Tuesday.

Simmons made 11 of 14 shots, including 6 of 6 from 3-point range, for the Crusaders (5-3) who snapped Brown's four-game winning streak. Kevin Hyland added 14 points for Holy Cross on 7-for-7 shooting.

Jason Forte led Brown with 19 points while Luke Ruscoe added 15. Forte was 13-for-13 from the free throw line.

Damon Huffman made a 3-point shot that pulled Brown (4-5) within two points, 58-56, early in the second half. Simmons then scored all 15 of his second-half points as the Crusaders increased their lead to 76-62 with 4:37 left. During one stretch he made 10 of 11 shots, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range.

Holy Cross, which ranks among the top teams in the nation in scoring defense at 54.6 points per game, held Brown without a basket for 9:07 in the second half.

A jump shot by Ruscoe gave the Bears their last lead of the game, 20-18, midway through the first half. Holy Cross then made 11 shots in a row for a 44-33 lead, including a pair of 3-pointers by Simmons.

Holy Cross shot 68.8 percent (22-for-32) from the floor in the first half and took a 50-42 halftime lead.
