CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Robert Hite scored 22 points and Miami
beat Norfolk State 76-58 for its eighth consecutive win Sunday.
After a sluggish start, Miami broke the game open with a 16-2
run that gave the Hurricanes a 32-14 lead with 6:31 remaining in
the first half.
Hite and guard Guillermo Diaz combined to score 12 of those 16
points. Diaz finished with 18 points, including 13 in the first
half, which saw Miami take a 43-30 lead behind 57.1-percent
Hite scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half, which saw
the Hurricanes shoot just 38.5 percent.
But Norfolk State shot just 35.6 percent for the game and
connected on only 29.4 percent of its field goals in the second
The loss dropped the Spartans' road record to 0-6.
The game was the final non-conference contest of the season for
Miami. The Hurricanes begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference
for the first time Thursday night at Georgia Tech.
