UMKC 88, Southern Utah 78

Kansas City, Mo. (AP) -- Brandon Temple had 24 points and Carlton
Aaron had 22 points and 17 rebounds as Missouri-Kansas City beat
Southern Utah 88-78 on Thursday night.

Temple was 9-of-16 from the field, including 5-of-11 from
3-point range. Aaron was 9-of-11 from the field, and he alone had
just two fewer rebounds than all the Thunderbirds combined.

UMKC (2-7, 2-0 Mid-Continent Conference), which had not won a
game this season until its conference opener against IUPUI on
Monday, had a season-high 88 points and dominated the rebounding
battle 40-19. Southern Utah (7-6,0-2) had just four offensive
rebounds for the game and just had one offensive rebound in the
last 3:51 of the game.

The Kangaroos, who led 32-29 at halftime, outscored the
Thunderbirds 11-4 in the first 2:39 of the second half to take a
43-33 lead with 17:21 left. UMCK's biggest lead was 74-57 with 4:32

Mike English, who fouled out in the final seconds of the game,
had 19 points for UMKC, including 9-of-9 free throws. Quinton Day
added 18 points and six assists.

DeAngelo Newsom led Southern Utah with 17 points and nine
rebounds. Rand Janes had 11 points, and Nate Janes and Jeff Martini
each added 10.
