RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- Ryan Moore rebounded his own missed
jumper and sank a layup at the buzzer to lift UC Davis to a 66-65
comeback victory over UC Riverside on Monday.
The game-winning shot came after Larry Cunningham blocked Rommel
Marentez's shot with five seconds remaining. Moore, who finished
with 25 points, grabbed the ball and was able to get off two shots
in the final seconds.
UC Davis (6-8) trailed by as much as 15 points in the second
half, but a 14-5 run cut the lead to 60-59 with 2:50 left. Klaus
Schille sank one of two free throws to give the Highlanders a 65-64
lead with 29 seconds left, setting up the final series of plays by
UC Riverside (4-8) may have lost star forward Vili Morton for
the rest of the season after he fell awkwardly while chasing an
offensive rebound with 55 seconds left. Morton, who had 25 points,
was taken off the floor in a stretcher and the team said the injury
will be evaluated.
