American 69, Yale 65

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Matej Cresnik scored 16 points and
pulled down 11 rebounds as American withstood a strong comeback in
a 69-65 win over Yale Monday night.

American (7-6) made all six of its free throw attempts in the
final 31 seconds to hold off the Bulldogs (4-8).

The Eagles led by 22 at halftime, propelled by 54.3 percent
shooting. But Yale battled back to pull to within two four times,
the last at 67-65 with 3.7 seconds left on a 3-pointer from Edwin

Patrick Okpwae made four free throws in the final 31 seconds,
including two to clinch with 3.7 seconds remaining. Jason Thomas
(14 points) made three 3-pointers to start the game and push the
Eagles to an 11-3 lead.

Yale opened the second half by scoring the first 10 points and
outscored the Eagles 25-5 to pull to within 52-50 on a Dexter
Upshaw tip-in with 9:11 left.

After Yale again cut it to two, at 58-56, American scored five
straight, culminated by a conventional three-point play by Cresnik.

Andre Ingram added 11 points for American.

Draughan led Yale with 19 points. Casey Hughes had 14 points and
Dominick Martin chipped in 13 for the Bulldogs.
