The Citadel keeps Tigers as only winless D-I team

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Warren McLendon scored 24 points and had eight rebounds as The Citadel handed winless Savannah State its 20th loss of the season Monday night, 70-47.

Don McLendon, who added 15 points for The Citadel (10-3), hit a 3-pointer 25 seconds into the game, and the Bulldogs never trailed. The tightest margin, 7-4, came at 15:30 of the first half after a 3-pointer by Mark Williams and a 3-pointer by Donald Carson of Savannah State erased a 7-0 deficit.

Williams, who with Carson led the Tigers with 15 points, scored the last three points of the half as The Citadel took a 35-18 lead into intermission.

The Bulldogs expanded their advantage through the second half. The widest margin was 31 points, 66-35, after a layup by Travis Smith.

Savannah State is the last remaining winless team in Division I.
