ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Junior Pehoua's fade-away jumper at the
buzzer gave Hampton a 70-68 overtime win over South Carolina State
on Monday night.
The jumper was only the second basket of the night for Pehoua.
Jeff Granger led the Pirates (5-9, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference) with 28 points and seven rebounds.
The game was close throughout. The teams were tied at 22 at
half, and the Bulldogs (7-7, 1-3) tied it at 57 with five seconds
to go in regulation on freshman Derek Moore's turnaround 3-pointer.
In overtime, South Carolina State took a 62-59 lead on Demeco
Heath's 3-pointer with 3:20 to go, and the Bulldogs held on to the
lead until a 3-pointer from Granger put Hampton ahead 65-64 with
two minutes left.
Granger hit another 3-pointer a minute later to put the Pirates
ahead 68-66, but Heath hit two free throws to tie the game at 68
with 36 seconds to go.
