GRAMBLING, La. (AP) -- Delvin Thompson hit a turnaround jumper
over three defenders in the final seconds of overtime to give
Alcorn State a 72-71 win over Grambling State Monday night in the
Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Brion Rush sank two 3-pointers in a row to give the Tigers (5-6,
2-2 SWAC) a 67-63 advantage with 3:08 to go in overtime.
DeAndre Jones then drilled a 3-pointer to give Alcorn (3-11,
2-2) its first lead of the overtime period, 68-67, with 2:04 left.
After the Tigers knotted it up with a free throw, Jones once again
came through with a layup with 72 seconds left. Rush then scored
the next three points, including a dunk, with 15 seconds remaining
before Thompson hit his game-winning shot.
Thompson led Alcorn State with 16 points and dished out five
assists. Almaad Jackson added 13 points for the Braves before
fouling out and Jones finished with 12 before fouling out as well.
Rush led Grambling with 21 points. Ron Ellis added 18 and Jamar
Lewis had 15.
