HAMMOND, La. (AP) -- Neill Berry scored his only basket of the
night, a layup with 0.3 seconds left, to give Southeastern
Louisiana a 56-54 Southland Conference win over Sam Houston State
Berry's shot, off a steal by Jonathan Patton, capped a
hard-fought contest and saw Southeastern (11-5, 3-0 Southland)
battle back from a 52-49 deficit.
Patton, who led Southeastern with 19 points, tied the game at
52-52 on a 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:06 remaining
before Wilder Auguste gave Sam Houston (7-7, 1-1) a 54-52 lead on a
15-foot jumper with 47 seconds left.
The Lions turned the ball over on their next possession and Ryan
Bright was fouled by Berry with 27.5 seconds remaining. Bright
missed the front end of the one-and-one and Berry snagged the
rebound giving Southeastern a final chance.
Brandon Streeter drove the ball down the floor, but Patton
knocked the ball away and Berry picked it up and dribbled down the
court and scored the winning bucket before the clock ran out.
Joe Thompson finished with 21 points for the Bearkats. Auguste
added 15 points.
