Northeastern (8-6, 4-1 America East) held Hartford scoreless for
the first four minutes and built a 27-15 lead with 7:31 left in the
half. But the Hawks scored nine of the final 11 points of the half
and closed the gap to 31-27 at the break.
Hartford (5-9, 1-4) pulled to within 36-34 early in the second
half on a free throw by Aaron Cook. But the Huskies restored the
lead to double digits with 15:25 left on a 3-pointer by Barnes.
The game was stopped with 14:43 remaining when Hartford's
Charles Ford was fouled on a layup and hit the floor hard. He was
taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. A
hospital spokesman said St. Francis does not release patient
The game resumed after 30 minutes, and the Hawks trimmed
Northeastern's lead to four with just under 12 minutes remaining,
but would get no closer.
Cook led the Hawks with 21 points and eight rebounds. Bernard
Lowndes added 12 points, and Bo Taylor chipped in 10 points and 15
