OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- (AP) -- Todd Abernethy scored 13 points to help Mississippi to its first conference win of the season with a 59-54 victory over Georgia Wednesday night.

Marvin Moore came off the bench to add 10 points for the Rebels (10-6, 1-2 Southeastern Conference), who needed a steal, a defensive rebound and a clinching free throw from Cavadas Nunnery in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.

Steve Newman had a career high 19 points for Georgia (6-7, 0-3 Southeastern Conference), including 17 in the second half. Channing Toney added 18 points and the duo combined for all but two of Georgia's 31 second half points.

Levi Stukes, who had averaged 21 points in Georgia's previous six starts, was limited to four points and was 0-of-8 from the field.

There were technical fouls on both squads during the game and 48 personal fouls among the players.

Ole Miss had a 46-36 lead on Londrick Nolen's dunk with 9:07 left, but Georgia rallied to pull within 53-51 with 3:01 left on Toney's jumper.

The Bulldogs missed three shots and turned the ball over twice and could never pull closer.

Both teams struggled from the field as Mississippi shot 40 percent and Georgia hit 33 percent. The Rebels compensated by forcing 21 turnovers and never trailed in the contest.

Ole Miss led 31-23 at halftime, closing with an 8-0 run in the final two minutes.
