DURHAM, N.H. (AP) --Ernest Turner scored 21 points as Maine held
off New Hampshire late in the second half for a 70-65 America East
victory Thursday night.
Maine (8-6, 3-2 America East) outscored New Hampshire 24-3 in
the final 8:51 of the first half to take a 45-25 lead. During that
stretch Maine hit four three pointers, two by Turner and a pair by
New Hampshire (5-9, 1-4 America East) opened the second half
with a 12-5 run to make it 50-37 with 13:36 remaining. But Maine
came back, leading 60-40 with 10:57 left.
UNH outrebounded Maine by a 43-27 margin, but the Black Bears
were deadly from behind the three-point arc, making 10-16 for a
shooting percentage of .455.
Ben Sturgill, whose jaw has been wired shut since he broke it in
practice last week, led New Hampshire in scoring, with 18 points
and six rebounds. Other double-digit scorers for Maine included
Reed with 12 points and Jermaine Jackson with 10.
