UMKC (5-7, 4-0) took the lead for good at 57-55 on Aaron's
jumper with 13:44 remaining and built its advantage to as much as
eight points several times the rest of the way. It was the 15th
lead change of the game.
Valparaiso (6-10, 2-2) narrowed the margin to three points,
76-73, with 2:14 remaining on Ron Howard's jump shot, but Brandon
Temple immediately responded with his fourth 3-pointer in as many
attempts for the game, and the host Crusaders never came closer
than four points the rest of the game. The Kangaroos made 5-of-9
free throws in the time remaining to seal the victory.
UMKC shot 58 percent from the field for the game, including
16-of-27 in the second half. English, who had 18 points at
halftime, and Aaron led the marksmanship, making 9-of-14 and
10-of-15 field goals respectively.
Dan Oppland led Valparaiso with 24 points, but had only a single
point in the second half, when UMKC held him to three field goal
attempts and he missed all three. Howard finished with 22 points.
