San Diego State 81, UNLV 73

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Brandon Heath had a career-high 37 points and
Marcus Slaughter added 17 Saturday night to lead San Diego State to
an 81-73 win against UNLV.

Heath had 23 of his points in the second-half as the Aztecs
(8-7, 2-0 Mountain West Conference) built a 12-point lead. Chris
Manker added 13 points.

San Diego State has won two straight road games to begin the
conference season undefeated, and has won three straight overall.

UNLV (7-7, 0-2) pulled within three, 61-58, with 9:18 to play
after a 10-0 run that was sparked by a pair of 3-pointers from
Michael Umeh.

But San Diego State was never rattled and Heath was perfect on
11 attempts from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Manker hit a trio of 3-pointers in a span of 2:40 midway through
the first half, helping San Diego State erase an early six point

Chris Walton connected on a 3-pointer to cap a 13-4 run and give
the Aztecs the advantage for good, 36-27 with 4:36 to play in the
first half.

Umeh lead UNLV with 18 points. Romel Beck had 16 points and
Odartey Blankson had 14.
