Valparaiso 93, Southern Utah 77

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Dan Oppland scored 27 points and Ron
Howard 25 to lead Valparaiso to a 93-77 victory over Southern Utah

Kenny Harris scored 14 points and Seth Colclasure had 10 for the
Crusaders (9-11, 5-3 Mid-Continent Conference), who shot 61
percent, with 48 percent from 3-point range.

All five Southern Utah starters finished in double figures.
DeAngelo Newsom led with Thunderbirds (9-9, 2-5) with 18 points and
10 rebounds. Tim Gainey had 14 points, and Lubor Olsovsky, Rand
Janes and Steve Barnes added 10 points each.

Trailing 38-33 at the half, Southern Utah got within a point,
40-39, with 18:28 to play on a midcourt steal and dunk by Newsom.

Valparaiso responded with a 15-3 run. Oppland started the rally
with a jump hook left of the key, and Howard followed with two
straight 3-pointers.

Colclasure also hit a 3-pointer, and Oppland closed the run on a
jumper in the key with 13:53 left, giving Valparaiso a 55-42 lead.

After that, Southern Utah did not come closer than eight points.

Harris gave the Crusaders their largest lead, 76-58, on a layup
with 5:56 remaining.
