ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Steve Novak scored a season high 23 points and Joe Chapman hit a key 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds left in the second overtime, helping Marquette beat Saint Louis 55-51 on Saturday.

Marcus Jackson tied his career best with 16 rebounds for Marquette (15-5, 3-4 Conference USA), which ended a three-game losing streak. Novak scored only two points in a 99-52 loss at Louisville on Wednesday and had totaled 13 points on 5-for-18 shooting the last three games.

Marquette beat Saint Louis (5-14, 3-4) for the eighth time in nine games despite season-worst 29.7-percent shooting, while the losers shot 32 percent. The Golden Eagles won without guard Travis Diener, the second-leading scorer in Conference USA with a 20.2-point average. Diener has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

Chapman, Diener's replacement in the starting lineup, had 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting. Dameon Mason had 12 points on 4-for-19 shooting.

Izik Ohanon had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Saint Louis, 3-7 at home. Ian Vouyoukas tied his career best with 13 points and added seven rebounds, and Reggie Bryant had 12 points.

Marquette had a shot to win in regulation and overtime, but got a couple of air balls from Mason and Chapman. In the second overtime, Chapman's 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds to go made it 55-51.

Saint Louis missed two chances to narrow the gap on its final possession. The last five games in the series have been settled by six or fewer points.

Marquette went more than 11 minutes between baskets in the second half, but recovered in time to force overtime. The Golden Eagles scored the last eight points in regulation over 4½ minutes to tie at 42, the tying basket coming when Mason followed his own miss with 40.9 seconds to go.
