Wright hurts ankle in victory over Penn State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Bracey Wright scored 17 points before leaving early in the second half with an injured left ankle, but Indiana overcame the absence of the Big Ten's second leading scorer to hold on for a 68-63 victory over Penn State Wednesday.

A.J. Ratliff added 13 points for the Hoosiers (10-9, 5-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak by winning their sixth straight at home.

Penn State (7-14, 1-7) was led by Geary Claxton with 16 points, and Travis Parker added 15 points. The Nittany Lions lost their third straight, their 12th time in 14 games and dropped to 0-12 all-time in Bloomington.

Wright was hurt when he landed awkwardly on Johnson's foot after driving to the free throw line and hitting a 15-foot jumper with 15:31 to go. The basket ended a 9-0 run that helped Indiana rally from a 36-34 deficit to a 43-36 lead.

Wright lay on the floor in pain for a couple of minutes before being taken straight to the locker room. He did not return, and there was no immediate word on the severity of the injury.

Penn State took advantage of Wright's absence by closing to 45-42, but never regained the lead.

Indiana took a 21-13 lead midway through the first half, but Claxton, Mike Walker and Parker each hit 3-pointers to get the Nittany Lions within 34-32 at the half.

Penn State took its only lead of the game, 36-34, early in the second half, but the Hoosiers rallied behind Wright and Ratliff during the 9-0 run.

The Nittany Lions stayed close the rest of the way and had a chance to tie it in the final minute, trailing 66-63. But Claxton missed a shot, Indiana rebounded and Marshall Strickland made two free throws to seal the victory.

The Nittany Lions lost backup Danny Morrissey with an injured left knee. He, too, had to be helped off the court and was expected to have an MRI when the Nittany Lions return home.
