SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Yakhouba Diawara had 22 points and 11
rebounds to help Pepperdine snap a five-game losing streak with an
85-68 victory at San Francisco on Thursday night.
Alex Acker added 16 points, Glen McGowan had 14 points and nine
rebounds, and Kingsley Costain scored 13 as Pepperdine (13-10, 3-5
West Coast Conference) won for the first time since beating the
Dons 64-57 at home Jan. 9.
John Cox scored 24 points for San Francisco (13-8, 4-4), which
lost for the first time in 11 games at Memorial Gym this season.
The Waves started the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 13
point lead with 14:45 remaining including two 3-pointers by
San Francisco committed costly turnovers as Pepperdine increased
its lead with an assortment of 3-pointers and dunks.
The Dons were outhustled in the paint and outrebounded. The best
that San Francisco could do was manage a 7-0 run in the second half
to cut the deficit to nine points.
The Waves quickly responded on a 12-0 run taking a 21-point lead
with less than seven minutes to go.
San Francisco used an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 lead. Pepperdine
answered with a 17-7 run to lead 21-19 with 8:52 to play in the
first half. The game was close for the remainder of the half. The
Waves scored the final five points of the half to take a 38-35
score into the locker room.
