West Virginia 67, Providence 65

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Tyrone Sally scored 15 points and Jeff
Parmer missed a last-second 3-pointer as West Virginia extended
Providence's Big East winless streak 67-65 Wednesday night.

Sally broke a 58-all tie with eight straight points for a 66-58
lead with three minutes left.

But WVU (14-7, 4-6 Big East) turned the ball over three straight

Providence (10-13, 0-9) capitalized, hitting a 3-pointer and
feeding a dominating Ryan Gomes inside twice to pull within one,
66-65. Gomes scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Big East leading 3-point shooter Donnie McGrath then missed a
wide open look from the top of the key, and D'or Fischer blocked
Gomes' shot with 16 seconds left.

The Mountaineers have won two straight Big East games for the
first time this year.

Providence, conversely, has lost its last 12 Big East games and
is off to the worst conference start in school history.

Kevin Pittsnogle, in his just third start of the year, scored 13
points for West Virginia. Frank Young added a career-high 11.<
