PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Dartmouth held Brown without a basket for the first 14:58 of the second half and defeated the Bears 48-40 on Saturday night.

David Gardner and Mike Calvin Arnold scored 12 points each for the Big Green (6-15, 3-5 Ivy), who broke an eight-game losing streak against Brown dating back to the 1999-2000 season.

Dartmouth held Brown (9-11, 2-4) to 15.4 percent shooting (4-of-26) in the second half.

Jason Forte was the only Bear to score in double figures with 10 points.

Dartmouth led 25-20 at halftime. The Big Green outscored the Bears 14-5 to begin the second half and increased their lead to 41-27.

Brown scored its first nine points of the second half on free throws before Luke Ruscoe scored the Bears' first field goal of the half on a tip-in with 5:02 left in the game. The Bears were 0-for-18 from the floor until that point, and then outscored Dartmouth 9-0 to pull within 41-38 with 2:05 left. James Daniels scored seven consecutive points for Brown after Ruscoe's basket.

The Big Green closed out the game by making 7-of-10 shots from the free throw line.
