East Tenn. St. 92, Western Carolina 83

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Ben Rhoda and Tim Smith combined for
46 points to lead East Tennessee State to a 92-83 victory Monday
night over Western Carolina.

ETSU (8-16, 4-10 Southern Conference) led the entire game but
was only ahead 85-81 with 2:52 left after a basket by Trey Hopkins
of the Catamounts (8-18, 3-10).

The Bucs then scored on a layup by Smith and a layup by James
Anthony after a steal by Travis Strong.

Rhoda finished with a career-high 23 points, and Smith also had
23. Dillion Sneed ended with 19 during 40 minutes of play and
Andrew Reed scored 16.

Hopkins had a career-high 25 points for the Catamounts, who
stayed closed by hitting 11 of 31 3-pointers. Rans Brempong added
15 for Western Carolina and David Berghoefer had 14.

ETSU led by 23 points in the first half, but the Catamounts
closed the half on a 21-6 run to trail 49-41 at the half.
