Tyler McKinney scored 12 points as the Bluejays (19-10, 10-7
Missouri Valley Conference) won for the fifth time in six games.
Until their current winning streak, they had won only two straight
once since starting the season 7-0.
The Sycamores, who trailed by 16 at halftime, scored the first
six points of the second half to get within 10 but couldn't sustain
It was 40-27 when Jimmy Motz hit back-to-back 3-pointers to
boost the lead to 18. Motz, who didn't take a shot in the first
half, hit his third 3-pointer to make it 51-32.
The teams traded baskets for the next 10 minutes before McKinney
scored five straight points to make it 65-47 with less than six
minutes left. The Sycamores didn't get closer than 15 the rest of
The Bluejays, who shot 58 percent (14-for-24) in the first half,
led 26-13 less than four minutes before halftime. After the
Sycamores closed to 28-21, Creighton closed the half with a 9-0 run
to lead 37-21.
The teams split their season series, with Indiana State winning
76-74 at home on Dec. 22. However, Creighton has won 12 of the last
14 meetings between the teams.
In a postgame ceremony, the Bluejays honored McKinney and Kellen
Miliner, their two seniors.
McKinney, a four-year starter, received a standing ovation when
he was pulled with 2:19 left. A similar tribute was accorded
Miliner a minute later.
