Lancers' loss is their 19th straight

FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Reserve Sylvester Allison scored 16 points and Utah Valley State defeated Longwood 54-50 on Wednesday night as the Lancers tied the NCAA record with 30 losses in a season.

The loss was the 19th straight for Longwood (1-30), which tied Grambling's 1-30 mark in 1999-2000 for the most losses in Division I.

Longwood held Ronnie Price, the nation's second-leading scorer with an average of 25 points per game, of Utah Valley State (15-12) to 12 points on 4-of-20 shooting.

Longwood led by as many as six points in the first half, but a 3-pointer by Allison tied it at 26 with 2:30 remaining. Allison's jumper at the buzzer put Utah Valley State up by two at halftime.

The Lancers again took the lead at 35-34 with 12:32 remaining, but a 3 by Allison with 9:28 left gave Utah Valley State the lead for good.

Longwood's Michael Jefferson had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Chad Kosmo had a career-high 11 rebounds.
