Miners meet Rice in Friday's semifinal

HONOLULU (AP) -- Matthew Gipson had 18 points and was one of six
players in double figures as Hawaii defeated Hawaii-Hilo 110-55 in
an exhibition game on Friday night.

Ahmet Gueye, a transfer from Salt Lake Community College in
Utah, had 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. Teammates Matt
Gibson and Julian Sensley each added 14 points for the Rainbow
Warriors. Sensley also had seven rebounds and five assists.

Hawaii never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 63-23 lead
at the half.

Justin Griffin scored 20 points to lead the Vulcans whose bench
was outscored 50-15. He was the only Vulcan in double digits.

Hawaii opens the season at home on Nov. 19 against fourth-ranked
Michigan State. Hawaii-Hilo faces Cal State Chico on Tuesday.
