EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Carl Marshall made a 3-pointer with 2:09 remaining for the go-ahead basket and Donald Copeland scored 22 points Saturday, helping Seton Hall beat Marist 75-72.

Marist had a chance to force overtime, but Will Whittington's 3-point attempt with 2 seconds remaining bounced off the back of the rim.

Copeland, who was 6-for-8 from 3-point range, was backed by Brian Laing with 15 points and Kelly Whitney with 14 for Seton Hall (2-1) as it rebounded from 93-40 loss to top-ranked Duke in the school's second worst loss.

Whittington and Jared Jordan led the Red Foxes with 19 points in the first meeting between the schools. James Smith added 15 in the first game of the season for Marist.

The Pirates jumped to a 23-6 lead, but Marist cut it to 41-32 at halftime on a 14-7 run during the final 4:39. Marist continued the charge in second half, with Jordan making a pair of 3-pointers in the first 1:18.

The Red Foxes pulled even for the first time at 43 on a basket by Smith with 17:22 left. From that point, it was a four-point game the rest of the way in a half that featured 14 lead changes and eight ties.

Seton Hall starting guard Jamar Nutter was suspended for the game for disciplinary reasons.
