NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Shan Foster tied a career-high with 25
points and Alex Gordon had 16 points and a career-high 10 assists
as Vanderbilt won its 26th straight non-conference home game with a
81-60 victory over Furman on Sunday night.
Vanderbilt (2-0) went on an 18-2 run to take a 70-54 lead with
under five minutes to play. Six different Commodores scored during
the run, with Gordon starting it with five straight points. Furman,
which has not beaten a Southeastern Conference team since 1980,
played Vanderbilt even for the first 28 minutes of the game but was
eventually worn down against its bigger opponents.
Vanderbilt shot 37 percent in the first half and 71 percent in
Furman built a 14-7 first-half lead as Vanderbilt missed 12 of
its first 15 shots. The Commodores played without senior guard
Mario Moore, who was serving the second game of a two-game
suspension. Two free throws by Punch gave Furman a 38-36 lead at
Vanderbilt is 5-0 all-time vs. Furman.
