    KENT, Ohio (AP) -- DeAndre Haynes and Armon Gates scored 16 points apiece to help Kent State beat Austin Peay 94-67 in the South Padre Island Invitational on Tuesday night.

    Isaac Knight also had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Flashes (1-1), who outrebounded the Governors 44-24. Jay Youngblood finished with 11 points.

    Golden Flashes coach Jim Christian shuffled his starting lineup one day after his bench failed to score in a 65-56 loss to Delaware State. Four new starters combined to score 25 points against Austin Peay and Kent State's reserves outscored their counterparts 53-9.

    Zac Schlader scored 24 points and Maurice Hampton added 17 for the Governors (0-3).

    Kevin Warzynski scored seven of his nine points in an 18-0 run that gave Kent State a 34-13 lead with 8:46 left in the first half. Haynes finished off the spurt with a 3-pointer.

    Austin Peay shot 29.6 percent from the field in the first half and committed seven turnovers as Kent State grabbed a 47-23 lead at halftime.

    Gates hit 4 of 7 3-pointers for the Golden Flashes, who shot 10-for-19 from behind the arc as a team.

    The invitational is being played with experimental rules, including a a distance of 20 feet, nine inches for 3-pointers, one foot deeper than normal.
