LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Demario Eddins hit a driving layup with 4
seconds left to give Alabama-Birmingham a 73-72 win over Nebraska
The Blazers (3-1) trailed 41-35 at half, but used a Frank Holmes
basket and three consecutive 3-pointers by Marvett McDonald to take
a 46-41 lead with 17:30 left.Nebraska (5-1) then held Alabama-Birmingham to just four points
in the next nine minutes and went up 55-50 on Wes Wilkinson's
jumper with 9:01 left. Nebraska led 69-68 with 4:01 left, but the
Huskers managed just three Jason Dourisseau free throws the rest of
the game.The Blazers tied the game at 69 on Wen Mukubu's 3-pointer with 3
minutes left and took a 71-70 lead on Brandon Tobias's jumper with
47 seconds left.Dourisseau hit a pair of free throws to put Nebraska up 72-71.
Then Eddins hit his underhand scoop shot to give the Blazers the
lead.Nebraska got off a potential game winner, but Jamel White's
3-pointer hit the rim and bounced away.Nebraska dominated the game on the backboards, pulling down 39
rebounds to Alabama-Birmingham's 28. But the Blazers forced 19
Nebraska turnovers and turned them into 18 points. Nebraska had 14
points off turnovers.McDonald had a career-high 22 points to lead Alabama-Birmingham.
Mukubu had 15 and Eddins finished with 13.Dourisseau led Nebraska with 18 points. Wilkinson added 17 and
Marcus Walker had 12.
