Both teams started off slow, scoring 3 points each in the first
4 minutes. The Spartans (1-4) took the lead for good off Karandick
Ogunride's layup with 13:48 left in the first half. That sparked a
14-2 run, capped off by a three-point play by Tony Murphy that put
the Spartans up 19-7. Towson (2-2) fought back to bring it to
within six at 22-16 with 5:54 left before the break, but Norfolk
State took a 34-23 haltime lead.
The Tigers again brought it to within six at 39-33 with 13:28
remaining, but Norfolk State pulled ahead, helped by a 25-5 run
that put the Spartans up 73-44 with 2:12 left to play.
Tony Murphy added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans.
Norfolk State had a school-record 20 steals, aided by four from
Tim Crossin led Towson with 12 points, all 3-pointers.
