JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Josh Goodwin scored a career-high 39
points and Justin Hare hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force
overtime in Belmont's 88-85 win over ETSU Thursday night.
Belmont (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) had an 11-3 run in
the last 42 seconds, including a 3-pointer from Goodwin, to pull
back from an eight-point deficit and set up for Hare, who had been
0 for 6 from the arc.Goodwin, a junior guard, also broke an A-Sun record for
3-pointers with 11 made.ETSU (1-3, 0-1) led the whole game, except for when the Bruins
pulled ahead with 3:14 left in overtime. The Buccaneers were led by
Tim Smith with 21 points, Dillion Sneed with 17 and Brad Nuckles
with 16.In the second half, the Bucs led 63-54 with 7:33 left when
Belmont began its comeback with a 14-6 run to make it 71-68 with
1:37 remaining.ETSU got a pair of free throws from both Ben Rhoda and Nuckles
to make it 75-68.Following a 1-of-2 trip to the line for Hare, Smith sank two
free throws to make it 77-69 ETSU with 42 seconds remaining.In overtime, the Bruins scored on three points from Boomer
Herndon, a 3-pointer from Andy Wicke and a field goal from Hare.Belmont outrebounded ETSU 52-47, led by Herdon with 12.
