CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Jerrell Dinkins scored 19 points and UMBC edged Delaware 85-84 Thursday night, ending a three-game losing streak.

Chris Pugh added 17 points and John Houseman had 16 points on 8-for-8 shooting for the Retrievers (2-3). The point totals were career highs for Dinkins, Pugh and Houseman, who picked up the slack in the absence of leading scorer John Zito.

Nana Harding led Delaware (2-4) with 28 points before fouling out with 3:43 left in the game. Andrew Washington scored 19 points and Rulon Washington and Calvin Cannon had 10 apiece for the Blue Hens, who have lost four straight.

Five UMBC players reached double figures, and the Retrievers shot 30-for-48 from the field in the 1,000th game in school history. Zito, who averages 15 points, sat out after spraining an ankle in practice on Wednesday.

The Retrievers used a 17-4 run at the start of the second half to take the lead for good and led 78-69 with 1:42 remaining. But Delaware manufactured a 9-1 burst capped by two free throws by Cannon, which got the Blue Hens within 79-78 with 39.3 seconds left.

UMBC hit six of eight free throws in the final minute, but with 15.1 seconds remaining, Cannon stole Pugh's inbounds pass and fed Henry Olawoye for a layup that got the Blue Hens within 85-84.

A tied-up ball along the sideline was ruled a jump ball, giving Delaware a final possession with 7.5 seconds to go. But Andrew Washington missed a layup with 2.1 seconds left.

Nana scored 14 first-half points, helping Delaware to a 43-39 halftime lead.
