FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Sean Morris scored 15 points on
6-for-6 free throw shooting as Colorado State matched its best
start in 35 years with a 77-65 victory over IUPUI on Saturday.
Jason Smith added 13 points and nine rebounds for Colorado State
(6-0). The Rams shot 57 percent for the game and were 20-for-23
from the free throw line in starting the season with six wins for
the first time since 1970-71.
Cole got IUPUI within striking distance in the second half. His
second 3-pointer of the period got the Jaguars to within 58-50 with
Michael Morris got the lead back to double digits with a jumper
and Sean Morris maintained it with a 3-pointer with 10:07 left and
then two free throws to make it 67-55. Sean Morris' 3-pointer was
the last field goal of the game for Colorado State.
The Rams were 14-for-14 from the free throw line over the final
9:27 of the game.
IUPUI started the game hitting 6-of-11 3-pointers, three by
Cole, to stay within 26-22. The Jaguars didn't hit another
3-pointer over the final 7:37 and with Colorado State heating up,
7-for-12, the Rams went on a 20-9 run to lead 46-31 at the half.
