MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Kevin Pittsnogle scored 23 points
Saturday as West Virginia beat Division III opponent Washington &
Pittsnogle scored 14 points in 14 minutes of first half action.
He finished with a game high 23, hitting four three-pointers on
One of three Mountaineers to score in double-figures, Pittsnogle
also used a 3-inch height advantage over his Washington & Jefferson
defender, center Josip Lucic-Jozak, to grab 8 rebounds. Lucic-Jozak
recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 12 points
and adding 10 rebounds.
West Virginia (4-3) overwhelmed Washington & Jefferson (0-5)
from the tip-off. Washington & Jefferson gave up 23 turnovers that
West Virginia converted for 29 points.
The game opened with eight straight West Virginia points, and
Washington & Jefferson never got closer than six from there. West
Virginia led 48-25 at halftime.
In the second half, Washington & Jefferson gained only eight
points and went 7:52 between baskets.
Saturday's game was the first matchup between the schools since
1951. The teams now have played 67 times, with West Virginia
winning 40 times.
