LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Brandon Ballard scored a career-high 19
points and Arkansas State held Richmond to 33 percent shooting in a
56-37 victory at the Colonial Classic.
Ballard knocked down five 3-pointers and the Indians (1-3) made
a decisive first-half run stand up.
Kevin Steenberge led Richmond (3-2) with nine points, but the
Spiders turned the ball over 19 times and couldn't recover from a
14-point halftime deficit.
Arkansas State trailed by six early, but Ballard hit
back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game and the Indians ended the
half with a 15-4 run to go up 32-18 at the break.
Richmond briefly cut the lead to 44-35 with just over seven
minutes to go, but Ballard hit a lay-up with the shot clock winding
down and the Spiders would get no closer.
Arkansas State out-rebounded Richmond 30-23 and outscored the
Spiders in the paint, 24-14.
Richmond faces Prairie View on Sunday in the second round of the
Colonial Classic while the Indians take on No. 7 Louisville.
