NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Steve Burtt scored 17 of his 25 points
in the second half to lead unbeaten Iona to a 68-56 victory over
Vermont on Sunday.
Kiril Wachsman added 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Ricky
Soliver added 10 points for the Gaels (5-0), who were playing their
first home game after four away games.
Wachsman scored all of his points in the first half to help lead
Iona to a 30-29 lead at the break.
Vermont hit five three-point goals and shot 57.9 percent from
the field in the half, while Iona shot 33.3 percent.
Klimes scored the first basket of the second half to give the
Catamounts a 31-20 lead.
Gary Springer capped a 14-5 scoring run that propelled the Gaels
to a 44-36 lead with 10:33 left. Iona led by as much as 58-44 after
Burtt, who shot 12-for-15 from the line, hit two free throws with
The Gaels outshot Vermont 46.2 percent to 41.7 percent in the
second half and outrebounded the Catamounts 40-26 overall.
