Navy 82, Howard 73

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Clif Colbert scored 16 points, and Navy
rallied in the second half to earn its first victory, 82-73 over
winless Howard on Monday night.

Greg Sprink and David Hooper each scored 12 points for the
Midshipmen (1-4), who overcame 30 turnovers and a nine-point
halftime deficit.

It was the first of three games between Washington-area teams in
the single-day BB&T Classic.

Navy scored the first 16 points of the second half to take a
45-38 lead. Kaleo Kina hit a pair of 3-pointers during the run, and
Sprink and Adam Teague also connected from beyond the arc.

Howard (0-4) eventually cut the margin to two points, but could
get no closer. It was 72-69 before Hooper sank a 3-pointer with 50
seconds left to secure the victory.

Darryl Hudson scored 19 points for the Bison and Louis Ford had
16.

Navy led 59-51 before Bilal Russell hit a 3-pointer and added a
layup to bring Howard to three points. Minutes later, two free
throws by Hudson made it 65-63 with 4:34 to go.

But Howard made only two more baskets the rest of the way.

Ford scored 11 points, and the Bison forced 17 turnovers and
limited Navy to 39 percent shooting in taking a 38-29 halftime
lead.

Each team had nine turnovers in the opening nine minutes. A 9-0
run put Howard ahead 13-9 before Hooper scored five points in an
8-2 spurt that gave Navy a 17-15 lead.

A dunk by Hudson ignited a 12-3 run that provided the Bison with
a seven-point cushion.
