SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I (AP) -- Will Daniels scored 25 points to lead
Rhode Island (5-1) to a 78-69 win over Manhattan (0-4) Tuesday
Daniels also had 10 rebounds for Rhode Island, which won its
fourth straight game.
Jeff Xavier led Manhattan with 25 points. Trailing 59-49,
Manhattan got 12 straight from Xavier to pull within 59-58 with
5:21 to play. Xavier hit a 3-pointer with 3:49 left to make it a
63-63 game. Rhode Island answered with five straight points,
including three from Jamaal Wise to take a 68-63 lead. Wise scored
15 for Rhode Island.
Xavier buried a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play to make it a
73-69 game, but Manhattan couldn't get any closer. C.J. Anderson
added 22 points for Manhattan.
Daniels scored 14 points in the first half and made the first
five shots he took. Daniels hit a pair of 3-pointers early and set
up a Dawan Robinson basket to help Rhode Island to a 12-3 lead four
minutes into the game. Manhattan only held one lead, 18-17, after a
Rhode Island goaltending call gave Anderson a bucket with 10:24 to
play in the first half. A 3-point play by Daniels with 13:49 left
put Rhode Island ahead, 49-45.
