WASHINGTON (AP) -- Brayden Billbe scored five of his career-high
19 points in the final minutes and American never trailed en route
to its first win of the season, 80-60 over Mount St. Mary's.
Mychal Cook led the Mount (1-5) with 13 points off the bench,
keeping his team close in the first half, but scoring only a late
basket in the second.
American took control with an 18-2 run in the second half, keyed
by back-to-back 3-pointers from Eitutavicius and Garrison Carr, to
take a 57-40 lead.
The Mount answered with a 10-0 spurt, including 6-of-6 foul
shooting from Mychal Kearse, but never got closer then seven.
Billbe helped the Eagles pull away with an inside basket and a
three-point play, stretching the American lead to 20 before fouling
out with 1:05 to play.
American opened the game on an 11-0 run. The Mount responded to
tie it twice, first at 26-all on Cook's 3-pointer from the right
elbow, and then at 31 on Chris Vann's layup.
