MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) -- Jerel McNeal and Dominic James each scored 12 points as Marquette won for the fifth time in six games, beating Valparaiso 69-54 Wednesday night.

Marquette (6-2), coming off a 35-point win Saturday against South Dakota State, had five players score at least eight points, while holding the Crusaders to 35 percent shooting, including 6-of-23 from 3-point range (26 percent).

Despite Marquette's offensive and defensive play, it took the Golden Eagles time to grab control of the game.

Valparaiso (3-2) opened with a 12-3 lead, but Marquette answered with 10 straight points to grab a 13-12 lead. From there, the lead changed hands three times before Marquette went on a 12-2 run to grab a 29-19 lead.

The Golden Eagles' lead never dropped below five points the rest of the game, and they led 42-29 at halftime. In the first half, Marquette made 13-of-28 shots (46 percent) and 11-of-12 free throws.

Mohamed Kone and Ron Howard each scored 15 points to lead Valparaiso.
