PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Darren Cooper had 18 points and five
assists to lead Portland to a 70-52 victory over Portland State on
Cooper was 7-for-8 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point
range, as the Pilots won for the fifth time in their last six
meetings with their crosstown rival.
Portland (3-5) led the entire way and had its biggest lead at
56-29 midway through the second half. Faced with possibility of
suffering its worst loss in series history, Portland State scored
11 straight points to the cut the lead to 16.
Cooper stopped the mini-comeback with a 3-pointer and a lay-up,
and the Pilots were never threatened.
Ryan Sommer had 15 points to lead the Vikings (2-6) and Josh
Neeley added 13.
