FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Jason Smith had 16 points and eight rebounds and blocked five shots to lead Colorado State past Pepperdine 71-56 Saturday night.

Cory Lewis also had 16 points with three 3-pointers, two of them in the second half when the game tightened. Colorado State (7-1) tied a school record with 12 blocked shots.

Michael Gerrity led cold-shooting Pepperdine (1-6) with 17 points. Tashaan Forehan-Kelly added 12 points for the Waves, who shot 29 percent from the field in losing their fourth straight.

Smith hit a short jumper, set up a layup for Michael Morris and blocked a shot in the early moments of the second half as the Rams extended their lead to 50-30. Reserve Willie Galick kept Pepperdine close with six points and when Chase Griffin, who had 10 points, sank two free throws, the lead was down to 52-45 with 8:12 remaining.

With the shot clock down to a second, Lewis drilled a 3-pointer and moments later repeated the feat to get the Rams back in command and their lead to 62-46. Pepperdine made only three shots the rest of the way and Sean Morris finished the Waves for good with a 3-pointer with 1:13 left.

An 11-0 run put Colorado State ahead 32-19 with 5:40 left in the first half. Gerrity, who had 15 points in the first period, got Pepperdine as close as 35-28 with a basket and free throw, but the Rams scored the last six points of the half including a dunk by Michael Harrison to lead 41-28.
