Valparaiso 80, Charlotte 77

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Seth Colclasure scored a team-high 24
points and hit all four of his 3-pointers to lead Valparaiso past
Charlotte 80-77 on Saturday.

Dan Oppland scored 19 and Mohamed Kone added 14 for the
Crusaders (4-2), who remain a perfect 4-0 on the 49ers' home court.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak.

Valparaiso twice led by as many as 15, the last time going up
54-39 with 15:39 remaining.

Charlotte (5-4), which ended a four-game winning streak, fought
back with a 12-0 run to trim the deficit to three with 9:39 to go.

The 49ers twice managed to take the lead late in the game, the
final time going up 67-65 with 5:18 to play on a 3-pointer by
De'Angelo Alexander, who finished with a career high 32 points.

Valparaiso closed the game outscoring Charlotte 15-10,
connecting on all eight of its free throws.

"Seth is very secure with the basketball," said Valparaiso
coach Homer Drew. "He has a great IQ for basketball. What he
doesn't have in speed and jumping ability, he makes up with the
intelligence factor."

Charlotte got off to a quick start in the first half, running
out to a 14-5 lead before the five-minute mark.

The Crusaders roared back, outscoring the 49ers 32-8 over the
next 11:37 to take a 37-22 lead with 3:10 remaining in the half.
Oppland and Colclasure each scored seven during Valparaiso's run.

The 49ers, which had 12 turnovers in the half, answered with
three consecutive 3-pointers to trail 40-31 at halftime.

"We need to execute better, defensively especially," said
Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz. "We had made such strides but tonight
we didn't have it.

"When we stopped scoring, we didn't execute defensively and
missed assignments. You're going to give up baskets, but we gave up
22 points in the paint in the first half. We can't do that."
