South Alabama 81, Louisiana Monroe 71

MONROE, La. (AP) -- Mario Jointer and Carlos Smith scored 20
points each as South Alabama defeated Louisiana-Monroe 81-71
Wednesday night.

Demetric Bennett added 11 points for the Jaguars (6-1), who are
off to their best start since the 1983-84 season.

The Indians (4-6) led 41-37 at halftime, but South Alabama
opened the second half with an 11-6 run in the first five minutes
to take a 48-47 lead. Smith knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and
Bennett and Richard Law each connected on one to extend the Jags'
lead to 63-53.

South Alabama pushed its lead to 71-57 with 4:03 remaining, but
ULM answered with a 10-0 spurt. The Jaguars finished the game on a
10-4 run.

Adrian Harper led Louisiana-Monroe with 17 points and Cecil Hood
added 12.
