SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) -- Mark Porter matched a career-high
with 22 points as Wagner held off Rhode Island for a 63-61 win

Wagner (6-1) led by nine points with less than two minutes to
play, but Rhode Island's Dawan Robinson closed the gap by scoring
seven of his 12 points.

Jamaal Wise hit a pair of free throws to pull Rhode Island
within 61-60 with 17 seconds left.

After DeEarnest McLemore made two free throws to extend Wagner's
lead to 63-60, Jimmy Baron missed two three-pointers in the final
four seconds that would have tied or won the game for Rhode Island.
The last one was a desperation heave from beyond mid-court.

McLemore scored five of his nine points from the foul line. Wise
led Rhode Island (5-3) with 15 points.

Porter scored off a Rhode Island turnover to give Wagner a 48-46
lead with 7:51 left, and they led the rest of the way.

In the first half, Wagner held Rhode Island without a field goal
for a stretch of more than nine minutes, but the game was tied
23-23 at halftime.
