PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Reserve guard Josh Akognon scored all 10 of his points in the first nine minutes of the second half Saturday to spark Washington State in a 61-46 victory over Portland.

Washington States reserves, led by Ivory Clark's team-high 12 points, outscored Portland's reserves 46-10. Darren Cooper led Portland (4-6) with 18 points.

Neither team led by more than three points before Kyle Weaver's 3-pointer gave Washington State (6-2) a 25-20 halftime lead. Akognon sank a pair of 3-pointers and four free throws to help the Cougars outscore the Pilots 23-6 in the first 9:15 of the second half.

None of WSUs starters scored more than four points. However, starting guards Randy Green and Derrick Low limited Portland star Pooh Jeter to five points on 1-for-12 shooting from the field. Jeter had been averaging a team-high 16 points.

The Pilots, who had won three straight games, shot 38 percent from the field and tied a season low for points. On the road, Portland is 0-5 with 46 points per game and 35 percent shooting from the field. At home, the Pilots are 4-1 with 84 points per game and 53 percent shooting from the field.

The Cougars, one of the national leaders in points allowed and field-goal shooting percentage defense, used their sixth different starting lineup. Washington State is 6-0 all-time versus Portland at home.

Clark's points were his first in three games. He led Washington State with 10.8 points per game before losing his starting job three games ago.

The Cougars shot 50 percent from the field, including 57 percent in the second half. The final half was slowed by 21 fouls -- 11 on Washington State, and 10 on Portland.
