NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Eric Flato had a career-high 20 points
to lead Yale to a 71-52 win over Hampton on Sunday.
The sophomore point guard was 7-of-10 from the field, including
5-of-6 on 3-point attempts. Dominick Martin added 14 points and
five rebounds in 17 minutes for Yale (4-4). Martin made 7-of-11
Yale used a 20-8 run to open the second half to go ahead 53-33
with 9:07 left to play. Matt Kyle had a career-high nine points and
five rebounds for the Bulldogs, who led by as many as 23 in the
Rodrick Coleman had 16 points to lead Hampton (1-5). Coleman, a
transfer from St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, was playing
in his first game of the season.
Bruce Brown, Hampton's 6-11 center and Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference preseason player of the year, was held to eight points,
five below his average. Six of his points came in the final nine
Yale built a 29-14 lead in the first half, but Hampton closed
the final 5:07 with an 11-4 run to pull within 33-25 at the break.
